The next talk in our autumn series of lectures on Zoom has now been announced, ‘Airborne Medics at Arnhem, the Story of the Medical Services in the 1st Airborne Division in World War Two,’ to be delivered on Thursday 30 September 2021 at 7 p.m.
The speaker is Niall Cherry, who became interested in military history as a schoolboy after watching classic war films. He later found out that one of his grandfathers fought in the Great War, serving as a chemical corporal at Loos in 1915 and ended up as a Captain. His father served in the REME in the 1950s and Niall continued in the family tradition by serving in the RAMC. He qualified as a Combat Medical Technician Class 1 and an instructor in First Aid and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare. He is a longstanding member of the Western Front Association, secretary of the Arnhem 1944 Veterans’ Club, and a trustee of the Arnhem 1944 Fellowship. He has had 16 books published on the major conflicts of the 20th Century and has taken groups around various battlefields as a tour guide.
